Our Mission and Vision
The mission of the Greater Baton Rouge Children’s Choir is to equip and empower its members from diverse backgrounds to develop strong character and artistic leadership.
Our vision is to cultivate and enrich the lives of our members by fulfilling our mission through excellence in musicianship and the enrichment of self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills.
· No Prior Musical Experience Required: Whether your student(s) are beginners or have prior musical experience, they will thrive in the nurturing environment of the GBRCC. We welcome students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Meet Our Staff
Dr. Christian Vigé, Artistic Director / Conductor.
Dr. Christian Vigé is a devoted husband and father. His multifaceted career and extensive involvement in various organizations and institutions make him a notable figure in the fields of education and music. Vigé is an accomplished pianist, organist, revered music director and conductor whose life has been a symphony of devotion to music and education. From local choirs to global stages, he is always seeking to unite diverse audiences for the glory of God! He has been afforded countless opportunities to produce performances and worship experiences that have uplifted and transcended cultural boundaries. As a founder and conductor, Dr. Vigé leads the Gathered Voices Choir, creating harmonious and inspirational melodies. Vigé is also the Artistic Director and Founder of the Greater Baton Rouge Children's Choirs, nurturing the musical talents of young voices in the community while simultaneously molding the choristers' character.
Dr. Vigé's educational background is extensive. A dedicated family man, an influential figure in education, a passionate musician, and a respected member of various advisory committees and boards; his commitment to fostering excellence in education and the arts is truly commendable, and his contributions leave an indelible mark on the community and institutions he serves. His commitment to music education has not only cultivated the talents of many, but also sown seeds of a harmonious future generations. His journey through the realms of church music and music education is truly and solely a testament to the transformative power of music when touched by God!
Mr. Jordan Locke, Accompanist.
Mr. Locke started playing piano at the age of eight. In middle school, his interest in the pipe organ grew and so he began his organist journey. From an early age, Mr. Locke was blessed with opportunities to play in church, be in church choir, hand bell, and a community hand bell choir. Mr. Locke is a graduate from Wingate University, where he received his BA in Music (Piano Performance). He is currently attending LSU for his Masters in Music (Collaborative Piano). Mr. Locke previously served as Organist / Pianist at Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC and was Adjunct Collaborative Pianist at Wingate University. In addition to accompanying the children’s choir, Mr. Locke serves as the organist for First Baptist Church Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Cindy Major, Rehearsal Assistant.
Mrs. Major taught as an elementary educator for 32 years and actively serves in the First Baptist Church Music Ministry. With an educational background of early childhood learning, and a nurturing, fun-loving spirit, Mrs. Major enjoys seeing children express themselves through the joys of music! Mrs. Major ensures all of our choristers are well taken care of amid their artistic studies with us; but most importantly that they have FUN!
Ms. Laura Wilson, Rehearsal Assistant.
Ms. Laura actively serves in the First Baptist Church Music Ministry along with numerous other roles at the church. She enjoys artistic expressions amid multiple mediums. Ms. Laura arranges flowers for Billy Heroman’s; and is an avid tap dancer for a local dance company. Ms. Laura helps all of our choirsters enjoy their experience with us!
Ms. Amanda Martinez, Chorister Engagement Coordinator.
Ms. Martinez taught as an elementary educator for 9 years and has a passion for seeing children learn and grow! She has also served in the music ministry at The Church International for 16 years. She loves to assist in scheduling and providing opportunities for our choristers to shine in our community!
